Much Appreciated

Jake & Chloe say...

THANKS EVERYBODY!

For taking great care of us over the weekend. We loved the extra attention, even though we had to spend more time in the kennel and porch. We like visitors.

A big husky A-Woo-Woo-Woo for all of you!

Lovin' (at) The Dog Park

I LOVE the dog park. I even know those words. My ears perk up when I hear them.  Today was a great day at the park. Both my friends Nona and Rosie were there. Nona is older (~12 months) and Rosie is just a couple of weeks younger than me. Nona is a black lab and Rosie is a golden retriever.  We had a blast playing in the pond, chasing the ball, and swimming. After that we chased each other around the park and rolled around in the sand. There were some other cool dogs there as well - a white Siberian Husky named Loki who was 2 and liked to growl at me, and a couple of beagles. Oh, and Chloe was there too, but she doesn't play with us.

I'm still worn out. Time for another nap.

NO BRUSHING ALLOWED

OOOOH!!! She's done it again! Snuck in while I was in a beautiful deep sleep and starts brushing my butt and tail. She knows when I'm in that weird sleep-wake state I can't react quickly and run away. Who cares if my tail's not fluffy? Who am I trying to impress? I'm past the mating age and I'm fixed. Plus, my tail will fluff up again when I get my new undercoat for winter. This grooming stuff needs to STOP!

Swimming

Swimming is loads of fun! Chloe gets in there and really swims - doing the dog paddle around the pond. Jake loves to run, jump, and splash. It's hard to see their wet coats in the pics. Will need to take the camera to the dog park sometime.

Fit Club

Back to Fit Club and walking on the underwater treadmill. It's suppose to help strengthen my back leg muscles without stressing my joints. It also makes me keep my head up when I walk to stretch my spine. Amy, the vet tech, says I'm the only dog she's seen that tries to walk on top of the water! Today I walked for 25 minutes. Not bad for having the summer off.

Apology

Mom says I have to apologize to Mrs. C for making her worry.  I was naughty and chewed on the baseboard in the bedroom while she was dogsitting. She felt bad. I heard mom say she was just happy that I didn't rip apart a rug. She didn't exactly say that to me though. I try to be good, but it's soooo hard. I'm sorry.

Singing the Puppy Blues

It's hard being a puppy. A 7-month old puppy, anyway.

All I hear is "no." No, no, no, no, no! I can't do ANYTHING anymore. I miss the good ol' days when I was 3 and 4 months. Everyone thought I was cute. I could do more fun stuff. I didn't have to do stuff like "obedience."

I'm always getting put in my kennel for "quiet time" to "settle down." I get in trouble for jumping on Chloe when I want to play. I get told "no" when ripping stuff apart. This kind of stuff never used to happen.

It's so unfair.

Splash!

Swimming (by Chloe)

Today we went swimming in the pond at the dog park! Jake had never been in the pond. He ran right in and splashed around. He had fun.

I walked around the edge with mom. Then decided to just jump in. I made a big splash! I really surprised mom who didn't expect me to get in the water.  I swam around, but not quite out to the middle. Jake didn't even swim like I did. Mom said I looked like a brown alligator - all you could see were my snout, eyes, and some of the fur on my back while I was swimming.

I hope we can go again tomorrow!

Ode To Humidity

When it's warm outside
And the air is thick
Mom takes me for a walk
It's her little trick

I walk very fast
And wear myself out
Shorter walks on these days
Safer for puppy, no doubt

When we get home
Cool air greets my face
I head to the porch
To my favorite space

Worn out, panting hard
I lay on the tile
A 20 minute walk
Feels like a mile

No energy for mischief
No jumping on Chloe
No shredding of pillows
No begging for treats

"Good walk," Mom says
Patting my head
A smile on her face
As I lay on my bed.
